The traditional cape of the shepherds of the Serra de Estrela massif in the heart of Portugal, where the wool used to make the Burel comes from. This thick, milled wool cloth makes the garment extremely durable and virtually waterproof. It features a large, removable hood. Designed like a poncho, it has real sleeves and two large exterior pockets. Two sturdy straps sewn inside allow it to be worn over the shoulders when it gets too hot. One size, available in charcoal gray and beige. Neatly finished with genuine horn buttons.

Product History

History of Burel: Rustic fabric made from 100% carded sheep's wool. Burel cloth is the result of several specific steps in the manufacturing process. After the raw wool has been sheared, washed, and spun, it is put through the warp and then onto the loom. Once weaving is complete, the fabric is fulled to tighten the threads. The cloth shrinks and gains density, giving the fabric its strength and a natural impermeability to water, wind, and cold.
