Product History

The Nontron is named after the village where it was born, located in the Dordogne region of the Périgord Vert region. Its history is so long that it's difficult to even date its origins. Experts agree that the Nontron is the oldest knife in France.
Since the 12th century, Parisian cutlery companions have passed through Nontron during their tours of France. This reputation for excellence in metalworking prompted the King of France, Charles VII "the Victorious" (placed on the throne by Joan of Arc), to order his royal sword there.
The "Coutellerie Nontronnaise" was founded in 1928 and was acquired by the Forge de Laguiole in 1992. Since then, the latter has been committed to preserving this French cutlery expertise. The artisanal company currently has around twenty cutlers and is certified EPV (Living Heritage Company).
