Trucker sweater made from brown burel wool

Attached to French manufacturing, the owners of Le Laboureur wanted to produce the Le Laboureur trucker sweater again in France. The meeting with Nathan Tordjman, knitwear stylist and Thomas Mustel, architect, made this desire a reality. The yarn is made up of half recycled wool, incorporating 20% ​​of the defibrated scraps from brown Burel jacket sheets, and the other half of naturally brown virgin wool. The mesh softens, feels felt and becomes denser. It becomes rich, warm, comfortable and resilient to future machine washes. Anxious to combine technology innovation with the development of a traditional sweater, the choice was decided to work in “ full ” knitting, from the collar to the sleeves and the entire fall of the machine, without the need for sewing. When it comes out of the machine, the sweater is 1.5 times the desired size and looks like medieval chain mail. It must then be washed at 60°C without chemicals to felt it to its final dimensions. This last, crucial step gives the sweater its stability and resistance over time.

HISTORY OF “BUREL” WOOL:

Rustic fabric made from 100% carded sheep wool. The Burel sheet results from several specific stages in the manufacturing process. After the raw wool has been sheared, washed and spun, it is put into warping and then onto the loom. Once weaving is complete, the fabric will be pounded to tighten the threads. The sheet shrinks and gains density, giving the fabric its strength and natural impermeability to water, wind and cold.
